It’s obvious. Social Media is swarming every part of our lives. How we communicate, how we consume media and even our career choices.
Thanks to digital, we now have so many job options; Social Media Manager, SEO Executive, Email Marketing Assistant, and we never expected ‘Blogger’ or ‘YouTuber’ to become one of the most aspirational career choices. We are now moving into Gen C, the ‘YouTube Generation’.
Although made up of over 80% millennials, children born post 2000 are likely to have been playing on their parent’s iPhones from day one.Children have so much access to online media and brands have adapted to this, particularly YouTube via its child-friendly app, and young vloggers are creating their own content for the platform. For example, rather than playing with their friends, young boys and girls are now able to watch other children play, via their smart-screen. (I know, weird right?!)
Vloggers and influencers are starting from early ages, inspiring the younger generation. Because of this, when asked what they want to be when they’re older, kids are responding with: “A YouTube star like x”.
Infact, YouTube stars such as, Zoella, Pewdie Pie, Smosh, Anna Marbles… the list goes on, are sometimes more sought after and admired than the typical, mainstream celebs such as Leonardo DiCaprio, Katy Perry and Johnny Depp, to name a few.
So why is that so many young people dream about making it big on Social Media? In theory, YouTubers and Bloggers have obviously started as a ‘normal person’, something many young people find hard to believe about ‘mainstream celebs’.
They are both equally as savvy when it comes to Social Media, hence why the career choice is so popular. It could be argued that it’s down to the ‘If they can do it, so can I’ attitude. And who can blame them, when you look at the likes of Zoella, who literally started blogging as a hobby and now lives in a £1million house due to a huge amount of recognition?
As glamourous as a Blogger / Vlogger career sounds, it really isn’t the be all and end all. There are other options when it comes to careers in Social Media and that’s exactly where The Juice Academy comes in.Fancy turning your passion into a full-time job?
