One Step Back. Two Steps Forward

My journey started when I first attended the Juice Academy Boot Camp on the 13th of April 2017. I'd never done owt like it before. The room was full of bright, intelligent people - all determined to secure a digital marketing apprenticeship with the programme. Initially, I didn't know what to think because I'd always been so unsettled in knowing which career path to take. However, once I learnt more about this exciting industry, I knew it was something I would love to be a part of.

At my very first Boot Camp, I was unsuccessful in getting an apprenticeship. Before I went home, I wanted to thank Sandy, the founder of the Academy, for giving me the opportunity to attend. This is when Sandy invited me back to the next Boot Camp in July.

I went away with a lot to think about and learn from that day, so I hit the internet in a bid to learn more about social media and digital marketing. Something that popped up in the results was Digital Garage powered by Google. I then spent a lot of time on the site to get more of an insight on what such a career is about. At the end of the free online course, I took the test and passed!

Next, I decided to start my own social media project, which I called ‘Unfit2fit’. With this, I aimed to attract a fan base of people who enjoyed sports and fitness, who may not know either what they can get involved in or attempt to try. This massively helped to build me confidence, so I decided to go back to the Juice Academy Boot Camp day for the second time - but was unsuccessful again.

The thought to give up never crossed my mind, I was already thinking of things I could do to gain more experience for the next event. I asked my manager at the time if I could help out in the Marketing Department for one day a week. I then worked with the team for a few weeks, giving me some great experience.

Once again, I found myself back at the Juice Academy Boot Camp for the third time. Some people may have felt embarrassed to be back where they started. Nevertheless, you have to remember that the room is full of people equal to you - no better or worse. You need to be yourself and show you’re not afraid of being let down. You need to have the willingness to keep trying and never give up on your dream job.

Third time lucky seemed to be the case for me. I’ve been given such a fantastic opportunity to at The Monastery, Manchester and can't wait to see where it takes me. What can be better than learning with the Juice Academy?
