I recently was fortunate enough to be selected for an incredible opportunity to spend the day in London shadowing O2’s Head of SEO, Colin Woon.
I found the opening a couple of months back on the Go Think Big website, just by chance. As a digital marketing apprentice, I know more than any that experience is key and so I thought - What do I have to lose? And off my application went.
Fast forward to last week and I was on a train down to London from Manchester. After meeting Colin outside Kings Cross Station we went to our first meeting of the day. O2’s Digital Monthly Review, located in a gorgeous meeting room with views spreading far out over the London skyline.
Getting to see 5 different aspects of the digital marketing team and how KPI’s are measured made me realise once more what an interesting and diverse career path digital marketing is.
We moved on to a hot-desk office to discuss more about the usual day-in-the-life of a digital marketer before one of the best perks of the job - great lunches! We headed to Flat Iron Steak in Covent Garden followed by a walk in the glorious sunshine to our final meeting, the weekly SEO Review. Sitting in on this meeting taught me presentation skills and initiatives to improving campaigns and in general more how SEO really works.
I’d really like to thank Colin for a truly amazing experience, gaining first-hand knowledge, advice and skills I’ll be able to take with me far into my career. Thanks again also to Go Think Big for constantly providing incredible opportunities and information to help young people get a step on the career ladder.
Online competition in Australia and New Zealand is pretty fierce, especially in niche markets. It’s really important to strengthen your domain’s local trust signals if you want better search results. I came across this Australian and New Zealand backlinks service and was impressed by how they focus exclusively on region-specific backlinks. A well-rounded strategy like this could really help push your site ahead of the competition.
