New Year, New Career

Chloe Gee | Social Media Apprentice

The best year of my life started at my lowest. Very dramatic, I know. True nonetheless. I’d finished college in May 2015 and was playing with the idea of going to university; however it really wasn’t for me. Post Summer, I was stuck in a horrible limbo of part time, dead end supermarket jobs and starting three years at university, something that simply didn’t appeal to me.

Three months of job searching and we had reached mid-December. I was disheartened and tired of being rejected. My 16 hours a week wasn’t buying anyone a good present this year. Then I remembered, back in September one of my friends had posted a picture of her on a free trip to Ibiza with her boyfriend, for work. So I asked her what she did and funnily enough she had gone to The Juice Academy.

I took a look and as if by magic, there was a music-based job going for a company called Beatroot. That was the dream, as I had originally applied to university to study music business (before I decided that it was a terrible idea). So I did it. I signed up. Hey-presto, In January 2016 I got the job. Ok, so it wasn’t that easy. That Boot Camp was challenging, but I did it. Thus began the best year of my life.

Going into an apprenticeship I thought that I was going to be making a lot of coffees and just listening, learning, absorbing. Apparently I’d missed the whole point of ‘learn while you earn’ and I was thrown into a new world! I gained more and more responsibility over the year and loved every minute of it. Before I started at Beatroot I wasn’t sure what I wanted to do, I just knew that I wanted to work in music.

Over the year I have travelled to London on multiple occasions and I’ve been able to meet, work with and even befriend some of the biggest names in the music business, all while financially supporting myself. Looking back, even though September to December was difficult, I’m so glad that I put in all of that research and hard work to start my new year with my dream job. As cheesy as it sounds, everything happens for a reason.

Joining Beatroot and The Juice Academy in a fresh new year gave me the tools and confidence I needed to make 2016 the best year ever.
