Is Social Media out of Control?

Juice Academy apprentices to take to the Smarter Business Tech LIVE stage to debate whether ‘social media is out of control.’

Manchester Central Convention Complex will host the new Smarter Business Tech LIVE expo this 15th and 16th November, representing the largest ‘free to attend’ business technology event of its kind ever held in the region.

Current and former apprentices from our award-winning digital marketing apprenticeship – The Juice Academy - will take to the stage at Smarter Business Tech LIVE to take part in what promises to be a lively debate about social media.

Chaired by Sandy Lindsay MBE, the debate at 3pm on 15th November will see four of our apprentices debate ‘social media is out of control,’ in place of the usual high profile business, media or community professionals.

Alfie Littlewood, of EMR group, will argue that social media is out of control. He commented:

‘When I was presented with the opportunity of partaking in a debate, on a topic that I am undoubtedly passionate about, I just couldn’t say no. Luckily I was selected as a panelist and can’t wait to share my views on why I believe social media is out of control. I’ve never taken part in a ‘formal’ debate before so I’m a little nervous, but more than anything I’m excited to be participate in this fantastic motion. Preparation is key to a good debate, so I’ll be practicing and researching wherever possible to ensure my arguments are as clear and concise as possible.’

Kerryn Zendera, of Victoria Warehouse, will take an opposing stance in the debate. This is what she has to say…

“I can’t wait to get stuck in! This is a fantastic opportunity to challenge myself and develop my skills. Here’s a chance for us ‘millennials’ to discuss a hot topic amongst the older generations. My initial stance was against, but after researching and speaking to my peers, it’s fair to say there’s no right or wrong answer.”

Arguing ‘for’ alongside Alfie will be Emma Green of UTC@MediaCityUK, the first university graduate to enrol on our new digital marketing programme in July. Niall Wilson, Programme Assistant at The Academy and former apprentice, will take the opposing side with Kerryn.
