Cheadle teen lands full time job thanks to apprenticeship

A teenager from Cheadle has become the very first social media apprentice from The Juice Academy to land a full time job.

Carly Phillips, 19, has been employed by leading property company Bruntwood after continually impressing her colleagues since joining in July last year.

Carly is one of 10 apprentices from The Juice Academy’s first ever cohort of budding young social media stars, who were placed in prolific businesses such as Bruntwood to learn on the job.

She said: “When I was told I’d got the job, I felt like everything had clicked into place – it’s amazing and I’m completely overwhelmed. I feel really lucky to have been supported so well from day one, by everyone I work with at Bruntwood, the tutors at The Juice Academy and of course, my parents.

“This is what I’ve been working towards since joining the company and now it’s a reality, I can’t quite believe it.”

The Juice Academy, the UK’s first employer-led social media apprenticeship, is committed to providing career opportunities to young people across the North West, just like Carly.

The Academy is currently recruiting its fourth cohort of apprentices, with jobs up for grabs at a number of North West and national companies, including JW Lees, Binary Box and Tangerine PR.

Carly continued: “University is not the only option for people my age and I’m glad my career is starting now, rather than in a few years. If I could give any advice to fellow teenagers in a similar position, it would be to give it a go – you never know where the chance might lead."

Kate Vokes, Marketing & HR director of Bruntwood, said: “Carly has proven herself to be a real asset to the company in the short time she has been with us. Her passion for social media is plain to see and this translates into great social media success for Bruntwood.

“She’s a vital part of our team and there was no way we were letting her go at the end of her apprenticeship. We’re looking forward to seeing how she continues to develop, while delivering tangible results to the business.”
