Job of a lifetime for Matthew Knowles

When I was offered the position of social media apprentice at The JRW Group, I never thought it could be as enjoyable as it turned out to be. Now, almost three months into the post, I feel well established in the company and, most importantly, a valued member of the team.

When I started, the company ran social media channels for some brands, but they weren’t all active on a day to day basis. This was especially true for The Matchplay Championship, an amateur golf tournament sponsored by JRW Group’s biggest brand, Golf Care. The tournament had Facebook and Twitter pages set up, but these were generally only active throughout the short duration of the tournament.

A month ago, the regional finals took place at The Marriott Forest of Arden Course in Warwickshire. I was given the task of promoting the tournament through various social media channels – posting live score updates and imagery from around the course, building buzz around the competition and announcing the winners – linking to the golf clubs for extra exposure. I thoroughly enjoyed this opportunity to oversee a social media campaign as it continued on to the Grand Finals.

The winners of the regional finals won a golfing trip of a lifetime to play at Ernie Els’ specially designed course in Dubai and a stay at one of the country’s best 5* hotels, the JW Marriott Marquis. It was great to build a relationship and engage with followers through the duration of the tournament.

Once the tournament had finished, we turned our attention to our cycling insurance brand, Cycleplan, which has recently launched on Twitter – follow if you wish! It’s been a long time coming – with meticulous planning and competitor analysis – but I’m very pleased to say that Cycleplan launched on Twitter last week. Its Twitter profile gained 100 followers in the first day, smashing the target wide open!

I can’t wait for the page to get going and to engage with the cycling world! It’s really exciting to work in sport and social media every day – two of my biggest passions.

Once again, I can’t thank the guys from The Juice Academy and The JRW Group enough for the opportunity and everything they’ve done to get me in this position – I thoroughly enjoy my job and go home looking forward to what the next day will bring
